I was born and educated in Sheffield, South Yorkshire, before moving to London and Paris where I began work in large scale Son et Lumière.
I am a practitioner of the art of Architectural Projection. I use images and architecture in combination to allow audiences to see a building in a new way.
My overall vision goes beyond a static appearance and takes into account the motion of light and objects. My specially commissioned Son et Lumière shows have received much attention worldwide.
I like to take the landscape and the texture of the space as my inspiration. Three-dimensional surfaces allow me to add or subtract texture and imagery, to play games with space. I want the viewer to arrive at a new appreciation of a series of surfaces.
Many of the buildings and sites that I work with are protected, listed or world heritage sites. It is not possible to physically manipulate these buildings in any way on a permanent basis. Re-manipulating the architecture within the projection allows the possibility of changing and re-imagining these buildings on a transitory basis.
